I have a balance view for and against this debate. With the latest handset coming up in the market every now and then people are goin crazy to buy mobile phones. According to me, whether to provide a handset to a teenager depends upon how the child would use it. As per my experience I have seen lots of teenagers using their mobile phones for productive communication and also because the advanced features helps them in their studies. EDGE, GPRS and advanced Symbian operating systems in mobile phones helps in quick access to internet. This can help in studies to provide useful information about various subjects.
On the other hand, mobile phones can also be misused by teenagers. They can use the device throughout day and night without doing anything productive and hampering their studies by doing so. So it's very important to analyze the state of mind of your child before you actuall hand over a device to them.
